Janet Spencer

Janet Spencer is the SE District Director with Virginia Cooperative Extension. She grew up on a farm in SE VA and earned a BS in Horticulture and MS in Entomology, both from Virginia Tech.  Janet began her career with VCE in 2005, as an Area Extension Agent for Commercial Vegetable Production, and coordinated on-farm research and educational programs for vegetable producers in SE VA.  In 2010, she moved into the role of Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent and Unit Coordinator for Isle of Wight County.  In this role, she conducted educational and research programs focused on crop production, coordinated local volunteer groups, and served as a liaison between VCE and local government. In 2017, she moved into the role of SE District Director and continues to serve in this role.  As district director, she coordinates district operations for 22 urban and rural extension units and provides leadership for both state and district initiatives.  Janet currently resides in Isle of Wight County with her husband and two children.
