Tom O'Grady

Economic Development Manager, City of Newport News

Thomas A. O’Grady is an Economic Development Manager, Special Projects, for the City of Newport News, Department of Development.

Tom is currently working to support marketing efforts and infrastructure development for the Carleton Advanced Manufacturing Site (145 acres) and Air Commerce Park at Newport News/Williamsburg Airport (330 acres). In addition, he is coordinating the design/build project team for the Newport News Economic Development Authority (EDA) to support a new Virginia Peninsula Community College Maritime Workforce Center. Tom provides project management support for the Hydrogen Tech Center to be developed at Newport News Tech Center Research Park, and other development initiatives in the pipeline on land owned by the Newport News EDA. These efforts require close collaboration with state and regional economic development organizations, and a wide variety of professionals in the commercial real estate and architecture/engineering/construction communities.

Prior to joining the City of Newport News, Tom worked for more than twenty years in economic development at both the local and regional levels. In addition, he has over ten years of private sector experience managing the business development efforts of large commercial general contractors, and experience with commercial real estate leasing/development. Tom earned both a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech.
